The Rookery Cottage
The Rookery Cottage 2024
The Rookery Cottage is in the village of Newland in Gloucestershire. The village is built around the magnificent parish church dating from around 1216, which is known as the "Cathedral of the Forest". The Ostrich Inn public house, which dates from 1694, is within 300 yards and must be one of the most atmospheric pubs in the county.
It is a free house serving a varied menu. The village is two miles from the River Wye, and is well located for walking, cycling and sightseeing. There are four golf courses within the locality. The town of Coleford is within three miles, where there is a selection of shops, banks and two supermarkets. Monmouth, which is approximately six miles away, has more varied and specialist shopping.
The Property
The Rookery Cottage has been sympathetically
converted to provide accommodation for two in Newland, a picturesque village in the Forest of Dean bordering on the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The Cottage is a converted stable – the original building is over 150 years old and is adjacent to a coach house conversion. Legend has it that a Derby winner was
once stabled there.
The Cottage provides well equipped and comfortable accommodation. There is a private courtyard garden
next to a babbling brook.
Outside the Cottage
The area outside The Cottage provides ample off-street parking for two vehicles. The gravelled court yard garden is well stocked with both climbers and scented tubs. There is also a barbeque and table and chairs.
An umbrella is available for shelter on sunny days. The brook adjacent to The Cottage runs from Coleford down through the valley to Redbrook a charming walk for those looking for a gentle stroll.
A note of interest - the owner’s paternal grandfather ran “The Ostrich” inn in the 1930’s and her father and his siblings were all born in the Pub.
Inside the Cottage
The Cottage is centrally heated and a combination boiler provides continuous hot water. All the accommodation is on one level.
There is a double/twin bedded room with en-suite fully tiled shower room. The large living room has a door leading to the private courtyard garden with barbeque and outdoor seating. There is comfy seating including a bed settee, TV with Freeview, dining table and chairs.
The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a gas hob with electric oven, integrated microwave and grill, a washer/dryer, fridge with ice box and a dishwasher. A high speed, wireless internet facility is available - your unique password is located in the cottage welcome book.
